How does nitrate get into my water supply?
Nitrate in groundwater originates from nitrogen, a naturally present plant nutrient, and from inorganic fertilizers and animal manure. As water from rain and irrigation flows through soil into the groundwater, it can potentially pick up nitrate along the way.
Nitrate in groundwater is more likely to be a problem in areas where farming and agriculture are common. Nitrate contamination can also be present in densely populated areas due to heavy use of lawn fertilizers and failing septic systems. Nitrate contamination is typically in very low concentrations, but some areas have levels of nitrate that can create health problems.
Is the nitrate reduction conditioner a good solution for well water?
Yes. This nitrate water filter is ideal for well water. In fact, it is the only WQA-certified whole house nitrate reduction system available today.
If you are dealing with more than one well water problem, you may require multiple solutions, such as a reverse osmosis system or a water softener. With a free, in-home water consultation, your local Culligan water expert can help determine what systems your home may need.
What are some signs of high nitrate levels in my water?
Nitrate has no taste, smell or visual signs, so it is recommended to get your water tested if you have reason to be concerned that you may have this issue with your water.
How does this whole house water filter remove nitrates from my water?
The nitrate conditioner tank is filled with an anion resin, which is positively charged. Because the nitrate ions are negatively charged, the resin attracts them and pulls them out of your water. There is a second tank containing a brine solution, which regularly rinses the resin to keep it working effectively.
