CULLIGAN’S NEW 2-in-1 TOTAL HOME WATER™ FILTRATION SYSTEM MAKES A SPLASH
Consumers Benefit from Better-Tasting, Softer Water Throughout the Home

CHICAGO, Ill. – May 7, 2007 – Culligan International Company, a global innovator of high-quality water treatment solutions for residential and business use, just unveiled its Total Home™ Water Filtration System – a two-in-one, whole house solution that reduces chlorine taste and softens water. As with other Culligan water filtration and softening systems, the Total Home™ solution is backed by the company’s 700+ dealer network who provide homeowners with local expertise, free water analyses and specific solutions depending on customers’ unique water conditions.
Culligan’s Total Home™ Water Filtration System offers the efficiency of two systems in one. The single-unit system filters and softens water in every room of the house, before it reaches family members, fixtures and appliances. “Would you drink water from a swimming pool? Then don’t let the unpleasant effects of chlorine inside your home,” advises Amy Hansen, Director, Product Management for Culligan. “Our Total Home™ Water Filtration System is effective at reducing the chlorine taste and odor inherent in some water sources, giving tap water a fresh, clean taste and smell suitable for drinking. At the same time, the system softens water for shinier hair, smoother skin, crystal clear dishes and softer laundry,” Hansen adds.
Culligan’s dual-purpose Total Home™ Water Filtration System helps consumers eliminate the hash realities of both chlorine and hard water (i.e. white spots and residue on glassware and stiff, gray laundry). Homeowner benefits include:
Reduces Chlorine Taste and Smell
For many homeowners, the effects of chlorine can be worse than hard water issues. Not only does chlorine produce an unpleasant taste, but it also exacerbates the effects of hard water on the body, namely dry skin and dull hair. However, chlorine’s benefits far outweigh the risks associated with untreated water. It has been the most widely used, EPA-regulated disinfectant used to treat drinking water in the United States for more than 60 years. Before it enters the home, pretreatment of residential water supply with chlorine eliminates disease-causing microorganisms that can lead to serious health risks. Chlorine, while needed when bringing water to the home, is not necessarily a desired element inside the home. That’s where Culligan can help.
Improves Quality of Life
By treating problem water, the new Total Home™ solution allows residents to enjoy everyday pleasures, such as better tasting drinking water in their coffee, iced tea, juice and ice cubes. Spots on glasses and dishes disappear. Laundry, sheets and towels are brighter and fluffier. Bathing is simpler, with easier lathering and no bathtub scaling. “Contrary to popular belief, getting ‘squeaky clean’ is not a desired effect,” Hansen says. “Squeaky skin is a sign of hard water binding with soap. This action prevents the soap from removing dirt, thus leaving a residue. Soft water helps soap lather better and rinse away that layer, so your skin feels smooth and silky.”
Saves Money and Detergent
Softer, filtered water is also gentler on appliances – adding years to their lifespan by eliminating potential for clogging and corrosion caused by contaminants and chemicals. Consumers don’t have to replace fixtures as often and they also experience additional cost-savings by using Culligan filters, which typically last up to five years, depending on the incoming water quality. Finally, homeowners can become “greener” by using less detergent needed for washing clothes and dishes, as well as eliminate the need for harsh chemicals previously used to remove hard water (lime) deposits from fixtures.
Offers Peace of Mind
Culligan’s Total Home™ Water Filtration System is built on “smart electronics.” The unit is programmed upfront to match a family’s needs and adjust automatically so that the household never runs out of treated water. A large, backlit display automatically notifies homeowners when the unit needs salt and/or maintenance, which are value-added services offered by Culligan. The system’s electronics allow for battery back up to keep the unit running even during power outages.
“Our goal with the Culligan Total Home™ Water Filtration System is to treat the whole house and the people in it,” Hansen explains. “This innovative solution provides the basis for chlorine taste and odor removal as well as water softening. Combined with other Culligan products such as our reverse osmosis filters, we can help residents tackle water issues unique to where they live to improve their water quality.”
Now Available
The Culligan Total Home™ Water Filtration System is tested and certified by the Water Quality Association (WQA) against NSF/ANSI Standard 44 and Standard 42 for. softening and chlorine reduction, respectively. It is available immediately for shipment and installation by a trained Culligan technician.

Special Tips for Consumers: Drink More Water, Stay Healthy
Water is an important part of every person’s daily diet, and is essential to good health. It makes up 55 to 75 percent of body weight (about 10 to 12 gallons), regulates body temperature and organ functions and can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Here are some tips for drinking more water, courtesy of Culligan:
- Add a slice of lemon or lime for flavor
- Drink chilled water
- Spread portions over the course of a day, rather than all at once
- Keep a water bottle on your kitchen counter
- Take a water break instead of a coffee break
Drink at the same times each day
