We get a lot of questions from people who want to know what’s wrong with their water. Since these problems can be pretty common we thought we’d answer a few of the most common questions here.
If you have a question about your water, ask us here.
My glassware appears hazy. What could be causing that?
Probably one of two things: it’s either a bit of haze left over from the rinse cycle, or it’s something called etching, which is caused by overly alkaline environment in the dishwasher.
Does it wipe off? If it does, then it’s just haze and you may need to adjust your water softener settings. Your Culligan Man can help you with that. Or if you don’t have a water softener then it’s time to get one. Plus a water softener will get rid of hard water spots all over the house so it’s well worth it.
If it won’t wipe off, then it’s etching which is the result of high alkaline levels stripping away the exterior layer of your glassware.
And you thought your dishwasher was here to make life easier. Actually, you need to use less soap in the dishwasher or, believe it or not, try doing less prewashing before putting the glasses in the dishwasher. You may also want to experiment with different products to find one that is milder. Many Culligan dealers carry cleaning products that are designed to work best in soft water.
Why does my water smell like “rotten eggs”?
Why can’t there be something that causes our water to smell like “chocolate chip cookies” or “new car”? Why does it have to be rotten egg?
The rotten egg smell comes from hydrogen sulfide in the water. The best solution is a Sulfur-Cleer Whole-House Filter that is designed to reduce the amount of hydrogen sulfides in the water which will get rid of that rotten egg smell.
You can also call your Culligan Man. He’ll know what to do.
