What is TDS? Simply put, TDS is the presence of
dissolved minerals in your water, most often calcium, potassium and sodium. Although TDS is a natural phenomenon, it can
still negatively affect the taste and quality of drinking water in the home;
especially when it exists in high or low concentrations (1). Because these
total dissolved solids are just that, dissolved, they are often not effectively
removed from water by some filtering techniques, which may only remove solids,
chemicals, and sediments from water. Typically, TDS removal can happen either
at the point-of-entry, where the water supply comes into your home, with
something such as a whole home water treatment system. Alternatively, TDS can be addressed with a point-of-use
system, where the water is treated right where it is used, with an under-sink
reverse osmosis system.
